To measure the food insecurity and to develop a survey instruments USDA experts reviewed all the research literature in1992.In 1994 USDA Food and Nutritional service sponsored a national conference on food insecurity measurement and research in which academic experts, private researcher and experienced staff of the federal agencies presented their views and concerns regarding measurement of food insecurity and reached at an agreement that will be implemented to measure the food insecurity. In 1995 US census bureau formalized certain questioners as supplement and used this to conduct a field test. This field test was repeated annually from1996 to 2001.The data was collected each year and the Rash model was used to measure the psychometric properties of this instrument. The content of the 18 questions remain the same all the years but minor modifications to the format and screening procedure was done in the initial years and in 1998 the design and the question format was changed to decrease the burden and to improve the quality of the data. Summary of study: A study was done among students of 5 Illinois universities to study the prevalence of food insecurity among college students and relationship of food insecurity with the sociodemographic character of the college student.
